The Master of Divinity (M.Div) Program

The NYTS Master of Divinity (MDiv) is a 90-credit graduate degree, the standard graduate degree for professional ministry in the United States and Canada.  The NYTS degree is designed to provide exposure in considerable depth to the broader range of theological disciplines (biblical studies, history, theology, ethics, sociology of religion, and the arts of ministry) in a manner that integrates theory and practice, or reflection and action.

NYTS will transfer toward the NYTS MDiv degree 20 “units,” earned by AOP students, considered by NYTS as equivalent to 60 NYTS credits. These credits from the AOP will be applied to meet both required and elective courses within the NYTS M.Div. degree. The specific courses that can be transferred are core courses in the RP curriculum and also feature prominently in the rabbinic and cantorial curriculum. ALEPH students planning to pursue this M.Div option chart a path towards this opportunity with the assistance of their Director of Studies (DOS), to ensure that the needed courses are part of their ongoing learning plan.

AOP students seeking to transfer credits toward an NYTS degree must apply to the NYTS degree program separately and be admitted under existing NYTS policies.  AOP students may apply to NYTS after completing at least 2 years of the AOP program.  Candidates must complete the entire AOP program for all 60 credits to be transferred.

Financial Aid: Making this Path Affordable

Once NYTS admits an AOP student to the NYTS MDiv program, NYTS will consider such a person to be an NYTS student for purposes of financial aid eligibility toward the NYTS MDiv.  In accordance with NYTS financial aid policy, a students who is a US citizen may apply for federally subsidized loans toward the NYTS MDiv, and can qualify for need-based NYTS scholarship grants.

Courses from AOP that will transfer to the M.Div at NYTS.

Note that exact titles of courses for both programs are subject to change.  In such cases, equivalency will be agreed upon by the Deans of the two programs.
