Shiva Gatherings for Hazzan Richard Kaplan z”l

Our friend, teacher, spiritual leader, sweet singer, collector of niggunim, and musician part excellence, Hazzan Richard Kaplan zt”l left this world peacefully on the 15th of Tishrei, the first day of Sukkot, his Hebrew birthday, after a three-year battle with cancer. The funeral will be live-streamed here beginning at 8:30 AM PDT on Friday, September 24.

We’ll remember and honor Richard in prayer and song during three shiva gatherings:

Click on each link above to register for that day’s gathering. Each registration is separate, and you will receive a Zoom link immediately upon registering.

The formal services will be followed by some open time in which memories and stories can be shared by all.

In a few weeks there will most likely be a concert and program celebrating Richard’s life. We’ll share more details as they become available.

In the words of Rabbi Mark Bloom, alongside whom Richard served as clergy for some 17 years at Temple Beth Abraham in Oakland, “may his soul, which always seemed to live partially in the next world while he was alive, find permanent peace there now.” And may his memory and his transcendent music bless our days.
